A homeowner in Malvern had a bathroom that was functional but outdated, with a built in bath, dated timber paneling, and a layout that felt cramped and disconnected from the light, open aesthetic of their renovated home. The space didn't reflect the quality of finishes they'd invested in elsewhere, and the narrow footprint made it feel smaller than it was. They wanted a bathroom that felt calm and spacious, with refined materials and a layout that worked better for their daily routine. Working within the existing 3m x 2.4m footprint, the challenge was to create a sense of openness and bring in more natural light while maintaining practical storage and function.

Gidaya Group approached this transformation by removing the built in bath and repositioning a sculptural freestanding bath to anchor the space and draw light from the window. A wall hung vanity in a dark matte finish with a vessel basin keeps the floor clear and creates visual contrast against the soft neutral palette. Large format stone look tiles run continuously across floors and walls, making the room feel larger and more cohesive. The frameless shower includes integrated recessed lighting, and plantation shutters on the window provide privacy while allowing natural light to filter through. Streamlined storage and carefully positioned lighting support the daily routine without adding visual clutter.

The result is a bathroom that feels open, refined, and effortlessly functional, with materials chosen to age well and details that make everyday life easier. Within an existing footprint, considered repositioning and a restrained palette did the work that a larger renovation would otherwise have required.
