Description
A homeowner in Newport had a dated bathroom with a corner spa bath that dominated the room, making the space feel cramped and inefficient. The original layout didn't provide enough storage, the finishes felt heavy and outdated, and the room lacked the brightness and clarity they wanted. They needed a transformation that would open up the 2.8m x 1.8m footprint, introduce better storage without visual clutter, and create a bathroom that felt modern and architectural while remaining warm and approachable. With Newport's mix of heritage character and contemporary sensibility, they wanted a design that reflected the suburb's evolving aesthetic without feeling trendy or overdone.
Gidaya Group approached this transformation by removing the corner spa and reconfiguring the layout around a wall hung timber vanity with twin vessel basins, creating a floating profile that keeps the floor clear and makes the room feel larger. We installed arched mirrors with integrated lighting to soften the geometry and improve daily function, paired with matte black tapware for contrast. The shower zone uses frameless glass and a linear floor waste for a clean, open feeling, with illuminated recessed niches providing practical storage. Vertical tiling on accent walls adds visual interest, while stone look surfaces in soft neutral tones bring warmth and texture throughout.
The result is a bathroom that feels brighter, more spacious, and easier to use, with a layered material palette that balances architectural clarity with everyday warmth.
